AlexHost offers high-quality dedicated servers that suit a variety of needs and offer maximum performance and reliability. Regardless of the scale of your project – whether it’s a small website, an online store or a complex enterprise system – AlexHost will provide you with a solution that meets your requirements. One of the key advantages of our servers is the ability to use different types of RAID arrays to protect data and improve performance.

What is RAID?

Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID for short) is a technology that combines multiple hard drives into a single logical array to ensure data reliability and/or improve system performance. AlexHost offers several types of RAID configurations, each with its own features and advantages. Below will be described all RAID types, whihc’s available in AlexHost

RAID 0

RAID 0 (Striping) distributes data across multiple disks without redundancy (backup).

  • Advantages: Significantly increases read and write speeds, as operations are distributed across all disks in the array.
  • Disadvantages: No data protection. If any disk fails, all data will be lost.
  • Who is it for: This RAID type is ideal for customers who require high performance and who do not have critical data that requires backup.

RAID 1

RAID 1 (Mirroring) creates a mirror copy of the data on two disks.

  • Advantages: High data reliability. If one disk fails, the data remains available on the second.
  • Disadvantages: No increase in write speed. Requires twice as much disk space to store data.
  • Who is it for: This RAID type is ideal for customers who need high data reliability, such as important databases and mission-critical applications.

RAID 1+0

RAID 1+0 (RAID 10) combines the benefits of RAID 0 and RAID 1, providing both high performance and data reliability.

  • Advantages: High read and write speeds with simultaneous data protection. Data is striped and duplicated across disks.
  • Disadvantages: Requires a minimum of four disks and significant disk space.
  • Who is it for: Ideal for customers who require both high performance and data reliability. It is the best choice for large databases and intensive applications.

RAID 5

RAID 5 (Striping with Parity) uses data striping with parity, which allows data to be recovered if one disk fails.

  • Advantages: Provides a balance between performance, reliability, and disk space efficiency. If one disk fails, data can be recovered.
  • Disadvantages: Reduced write performance due to parity calculations. Requires a minimum of three disks.
  • Who is it for: This RAID type is suitable for customers who need good performance and data reliability with minimal disk space requirements, such as file servers and web servers.
