AlexHost BGP Service

Q: What is a BGP session and why is it needed?

BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) is a routing protocol used for exchanging routing information between different Autonomous Systems (AS). At AlexHost, a BGP session allows clients to enhance flexibility and gain greater control over their network traffic management.

Q: How can I connect to a BGP session at AlexHost?

To connect to a BGP session, you will need to rent a dedicated server or use our colocation service. You must have your own AS Number and Prefix (Minimum is IPv4 /24 and IPv6 /48). AlexHost team provides full support for setting up and running BGP within 24-48 hours.

Q: Which upstream providers are used in AlexHost's network?

AlexHost utilizes major upstream providers such as Cogent (AS174) and RETN (AS9002) to ensure stable and high-speed global traffic exchange.

Q: Do you support BGP Communities?

Yes, we offer support for BGP Communities, enabling clients to fine-tune traffic routing based on their specific requirements.

Q: Is DDoS protection included in the BGP session?

Yes, all BGP sessions at AlexHost come with built-in DDoS protection, ensuring secure and uninterrupted network performance.

Q: Is technical support available for BGP services at AlexHost?

Absolutely! AlexHost provides 24/7 technical support for our BGP services. Our team of network experts is always available to assist with any issues, configuration questions, or ongoing management needs.

AlexHost offers comprehensive BGP services to enhance the flexibility, reliability, and security of your network infrastructure. BGP allows organizations to manage how traffic is routed across the internet, providing greater control over connectivity and performance.

Get Started

ASN: 200019

AlexHost uses Autonomous System Number (ASN) 200019 to allow our customers to announce their own ASN and IP Subnet(s) on the global internet. This ASN allows customers to take advantage of the full benefits of BGP routing, including improved redundancy, load balancing, and performance optimization.

BGP Communities: Available from Provider

For clients requiring advanced routing management, AlexHost offers BGP Communities, which are available from the upstream providers (Cogent and RETN) upon request. BGP Communities allow customers to implement various routing policies by tagging routes with predefined values. These can be used to manage the behavior of prefixes across multiple networks, offering more flexibility and control over network traffic.

Anti-DDoS Included

In today's internet landscape, DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks are a constant threat. To protect our clients’ networks, we include Anti-DDoS protection as part of our BGP service. This ensures that your systems remain online and operational even in the event of an attack, safeguarding your infrastructure from malicious traffic.

Upstream Providers: Cogent (ASN 174) and RETN (ASN 9002)

Our BGP service is backed by two highly reliable upstream providers: Cogent (ASN 174) and RETN (ASN 9002). These providers ensure high-quality global connectivity and reliable traffic routing across the internet. Partnering with such reputable providers allows AlexHost to offer low-latency, high-bandwidth connections with optimal redundancy and network performance.

BGP Service provided by AlexHost

BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) operates over TCP and utilizes port 179 for establishing connections between routers across different Autonomous Systems (AS). This port is essential for the reliable transmission of BGP data, allowing seamless communication between routers and ensuring network stability. At AlexHost, we ensure that all BGP sessions are securely established using TCP/179, facilitating smooth and efficient traffic routing. By adhering to the best industry practices, including the usage of open TCP/179, we guarantee optimal performance for clients relying on our BGP services. Secure and efficient network operations are a priority at AlexHost, and our use of TCP/179 reflects this commitment.

Cheap BGP service: key benefits

The key advantages of BGP hosting from the AlexHost team include:

Thorough route optimization, allowing you to identify the best routes for data transmission much faster. This positively impacts the stability and speed of connections.
Flexible settings and comfortable management. BGP servers give administrators the ability to control route priorities and configure the network according to the specific needs of your business project.
Fault tolerance and reliability. By using multiple routes, BGP servers ensure high network availability and help minimize downtime in case of a failure on one of the paths.
Load distribution. BGP servers can balance traffic among multiple network channels, reducing server overload and increasing performance.

Working with BGP servers involves following a specific process. Initially, this includes route exchange, where servers of neighboring autonomous systems exchange routing information. Next, the optimal route is determined according to predefined criteria and parameters. The best solution is identified after a thorough examination and comparison of several potential paths. The following step is updating the routing tables and transmitting the updated information to other servers. Path reservation is then implemented, allowing the BGP server to switch to a backup route in case of failure, thereby protecting against data leakage.

After selecting the primary and alternative routes, the server performs load balancing, distributing traffic among multiple channels to prevent overloads and enhance network performance.

About the RFC 4271

RFC 4271 outlines the specifications and standards for the BGP protocol, ensuring interoperability and efficiency across the internet’s routing systems. Following the guidelines set forth in RFC 4271, AlexHost maintains high standards of network routing, enabling secure and efficient traffic exchange between Autonomous Systems. By adhering to these internationally recognized standards, we offer our clients robust and reliable BGP sessions. Our focus on compliance with RFC 4271 ensures that businesses partnering with AlexHost enjoy consistent and optimized network performance. This also helps reduce routing issues, ensuring high uptime and reliability for mission-critical applications.
